Popping the Cork on Our New Winemaker Series of Vanities and Mirrors
When it comes to giving old materials a new life, sometimes all it takes is a fresh perspective. Explore the eco-luxe beauty of Native Trails’ latest bathroom furniture collection’, infused with the soul of California wine country.
Where some may have seen a pile of used up winemaking materials ready for the landfill, Native Trails found inspiration for a luxurious new collection of bath furniture. The oak used to make our new Winemaker Series is not only ripe for its second life but its past role in the winemaking process has enhanced its already generous grain, rendering it all the more gorgeous.
Crafted in the U.S. using upcycled American and French white oak staves from California wineries, Native Trails’ new series is a true work of artisanship – full of heart, history and the handiwork of our in-house craftspeople. To create these pieces, our makers must completely transform the wine-stained oak staves to prepare them for their next incarnation as fine furniture.
Before coming to us, the oak staves have been soaked in wine for many months during the fermentation process. This adds flavor and aroma to the wine; it also happens to add exceptional character to the grain of the oak itself. Once the oak staves’ useful life in winemaking has come to an end, we haul away trailer loads of them from our partner wineries. They arrive at our woodshop smelling strongly of wine and practically still wet with it.
Beginning the laborious process of prepping the staves to begin their second life, we dry the staves thoroughly and brush them to remove wine residue. We plane them to a soft finish, to showcase the natural beauty and character of the wood while straightening and flattening it. After each piece is meticulously constructed, it’s sanded once more to provide an indulgent tactile experience.
Finally, the vanities are finished through an intensive, multistep process that makes the oak grain really come alive. Offered in two striking finishes, including Cask Oak (a versatile, nutty brown) and Charred Oak (a timeless, washed black hue), the Winemaker Series vanities are stained by hand and protected with a low VOC finish.
The Winemaker Series features five distinctive pieces — the Winemaker 30” Vanity, Winemaker 48” Vanity, Winemaker Floating Vanity and Winemaker Mirror in two sizes.
Eco-luxe elegance
Winemaker features sustainably sourced French white oak. The careful design emphasizes the natural beauty of the wood, with the delicate grain coming through beautifully, even in the darker Charred finish. The smooth, luxurious feel of the pieces adds to their aesthetic.
Embrace the beauty of sustainable design
The Winemaker Collection’s clean lines and natural materials, combined with horizontal slats, exude a modern aesthetic that seamlessly complements a wide variety of interior styles.
You may have noticed, Native Trails has a thing for wine … and reclaimed wood…
This certainly isn’t the first time Native Trails has made bathroom furniture from reclaimed wood with character as rich as its history. Be sure to check out our Americana Collection, made from old barn wood and built to last for generations. We’ve also previously partnered with California wineries to upcycle their staves. For more than a decade, our much-loved Vintner’s Collection has reincarnated oak barrels and staves into beautifully functional bathroom furniture and mirrors with a unique history.
