Go Inside a Balinese Bathroom Retreat Hidden Right in Atlanta
A nature-driven retreat by Wyeth Ray Interiors redefines Southern luxury through a Balinese lens—with the NativeStone® Avalon tub at its center.

Where Bali Meets the South: A Story of Stillness and Style
When Whitney Ray’s Atlanta clients asked her to “make them a resort,” she didn’t just hear a design brief—she heard a lifestyle philosophy. As principal designer of Wyeth Ray Interiors, Ray approached the project with a vision that spanned oceans. The result is a home—and especially a primary bath—that channels the serene elegance of Balinese bathroom design in a distinctly Southern setting.
“There’s nothing synthetic; everything is harmonious with the environment,” says Ray. “From the front door all the way through the house, they wanted you to feel truly like you were at a resort.” That ethos echoes throughout the home’s U-shaped footprint, where nearly every room overlooks a shimmering pool. But nowhere is the aesthetic more refined—or more transportive—than in the bath, where a freestanding NativeStone Avalon tub anchors the space with elemental grace.

A Bath That Became the Centerpiece
Although the Avalon tub was the final piece selected for the project, it was perhaps the most transformative. “This is different than a typical bathroom. The tub is sitting in the middle of the room, not up against a wall. It’s literally the centerpiece,” says Ray.
The design called for a freestanding form that felt grounded, sculptural, and organic. “Everything else just seemed almost too polished, too perfect,” she explains. “But when we stumbled upon the Native Trails tub, it really was the perfect fit… It pulled all the different components together.”
A Closer Look: Key Elements That Define the Space
Beyond the tub, this Balinese bathroom design layers texture, craft, and material intention in every corner. Ray sourced pieces with soul, giving each item purpose within the visual narrative:
- Hand-Bent Rattan Wall Art: A sculptural piece from Palecek adds warmth and tactility without overwhelming the space.
- Vintage-Inspired Rug: From local Atlanta company Moattar, it softens the floor with a global, lived-in sensibility.
- Walnut Vanity & Black Soapstone Counter: The custom vanity features an integrated trough sink, echoing the tub’s organic materiality.
- Sliding Reeded Wood Doors: Textural, architectural, and grounding.
- Kohler Purist Faucets: A modern counterpoint that blends quietly into the whole.
Each choice honors the client’s request for natural materials and an atmosphere of calm—hallmarks of Balinese bathroom design.

From Studio Beginnings to Architectural Digest
Ray’s passion for interiors began long before Wyeth Ray Interiors was founded. “Everything was a learning curve for me… and the learning curve continues! I love it,” she says of her evolution. “We’re doing just crazy projects now—true working farmhouses, family compounds in the mountains… and we just finished something in Alys Beach.”
This Atlanta home, though, marked a pivotal moment. “That project was actually my first full construction—from dirt to completion—and it took a little over two years,” she shares. “It was our first baby.”
The home has since been featured in Architectural Digest, Traditional Home, and Atlanta Magazine—recognition that underscores the power of bold, place-defying design.

Beyond the Bath: An Immersive Way of Living
The home’s layout encourages mindfulness in motion. “There’s not one part of this house that isn’t used daily,” Ray says. “To get your morning coffee, you walk around the pool… you experience the entire house.”
Another standout? A double-sided fireplace that links an open great room to a tranquil relaxation lounge. “It’s the same fireplace element, but it’s much more intimate,” she says. That duality—grand yet grounded, expansive yet quiet—reflects the same sensibility that defines the bathroom.

FAQ: What Makes a Bathroom Feel Balinese?
A successful Balinese-style bathroom blends natural materials, indoor-outdoor flow, and a serene, spa-like aesthetic. Think tactile textures, organic finishes, water features, and furniture-style vanities. The NativeStone Avalon tub, with its concrete texture and sculptural shape, is a quintessential fit for this style.
What Would You Create If You Designed Without Borders?
